Early Christmas

Forgive the briefness of this blog – as I type I should probably be frantically packing…

For our trip to Australia and New Zealand! Yup, that’s right – I’ll be away for a few weeks celebrating a family wedding and taking some time to see the sights.

It’s kind of strange not enjoying the normal red & green splurge, the scent of the fir trees and prickling of holly wreaths. I’ll be lapping up the sun and the sea in a few days time and I can hardly get my head around it!

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas, and I will respond to all enquiries on my return.

Have a good’un!

Holidaying and the Growing Season Approaches

Well, we’re back from our wonderful holiday in Wales.  We toured the Coast in just under two weeks in our campervan Avril.  Avril doubles up as the delivery van, during working weeks.  Taking holidays when self employed is both easy, and difficult at the same time.  You’ve nobody to answer to to take the time off, but nobody will carry on your work when you’re away!  So apologies for the silence.  I’m back now, ready and raring to go.

The growing season is ahead of us.  Little sweet pea sprigs are slowly working their way upwards, and I’m reading “50 Ways to Kill a Slug” again and again and again, to get rid of the little blighters, and give my flowers a fighting chance.  I’ll be growing a lot more of the flowers in bouquets this year than last, and I’m looking forward to the Summer, when there are plenty of bouquets with requirements for gorgeous home grown sweet peas, scabiosa, cosmos, poppies, cornflowers, lavender and more.

Anyway, here’s a few fun pictures of some of the things we got up to.  Everyone needs a break sometimes to refresh their spirits.

Would You Live in a Place Like This?

Isn’t it beautiful?

We stumbled across this little pocket of beauty walking along the Great Western Canal.  Someone developed the end of their garden into a little haven of flowers and wildlife, with a mini cottagey building nearby and a small canalboat to enjoy cruising the waters.

I’d live in a place like this for sure!

I’ve been working with David Austin Roses today, with Dendrobium Orchids and Sweet Avalanche Roses and oh so many beautiful flowers.  The David Austin roses smell simply divine, a proper ‘old rose’ smell, quite sweet and citrus like.  If you’re going to the wedding tomorrow where the roses will be on full display, make sure you go up to the Bride and have a sniff…

Fields of Gold

A little discovery on our holiday travels in Sunny Kent

I love nature.
And sunshine.
But in general, I think I prefer Autumn and Spring… Sorry Summer lovers.

Free Holidays

One great thing about owning a campervan, (however hideous a colour it may be…) you get to have free holidays!  Well, free if you find a quiet spot to park in overnight – or you live in Scotland.

August is prime holiday season.  It is also prime wedding season.  A florist can grab a few days here and there, and a few days is enough, particularly if they are spontaneous, it’s sunny, in a campervan and practically free!

Try it sometime.  A campervan is a good investment!

Rainy July Holidays

Sorry for the quietness all week.  Mr T and I booked a rather large house on a rather good deal in Windermere for a few days, and persuaded fifteen of our wonderful friends to come and join us.
It was awesome, one of the best holidays we’ve had for some time!  The company and outdoors were just what we needed, and Avril the Camper lasted well all week too.
I’ll be back to posting about flowers, watercolour splodges and more soon, when I’ve finished washing my clothes and sifting through photos

Illustration: Our Favourite Places

It was Phil’s birthday on Sunday. I painted him a driftwood signpost illustration, with a simple beach scene behind it. It had some of our favourite places on the signpost.

The Scottish Borders, The Lakes, Tynemouth, Hamsterley and Holywell Bay
It hangs in our bathroom, reminding us of faraway (and not so faraway) places we love.

If you were to have a driftwood signpost of your favourite places, which 5 places would feature?
